Badge History
The Club badge is made up of various integral elements as follows:
The 'Liver Bird' is an imaginary cross between an eagle and a cormorant. When
Liverpool was granted city status by King John, an impression of the Liver Bird was
incorporated into the wax which sealed the charter. Ever since, the Liver Bird has become
a traditional symbol of the City of Liverpool and is therefore an integral part of the
badge of L.F.C.
In addition, 'You'll Never Walk Alone' is the famous anthem of the Club. The
current logo incorporates this moto along with a representation of the iron curlicues of
the 'Shankly Gates'.
The flame is symbolic, and honours the memory of the 96 Liverpool supporters who
died in the Hillsborough tragedy in 1989.
