  - Dave Rylands makes his LFC debut

The Reds were held to a score draw at home to Doncaster Rovers. Doncaster arrived at Anfield bottom of the whole football League.

Dave Rylands came in to the back line for the Reds in place of the injured Larry Lloyd. Phil Boersma replaced the injured John Toshack.

The Reds won the toss and defended the Kop end in the first half.

The Reds got off to a great start as Kevin Keegan scored after just three minutes. In their first attack Phil Thompson sent Heighway clear. The move finally came to fruition when Callaghan centred for Keegan who headed home past Book.

Within just three minutes though Rovers were level. A half cleared corner was put back in to the box by Woods where Kitchen toe poked it home after Clemence fumbled it.

Rovers then stunned Anfield on eighteen minutes when they took the lead. Murray put in a cross which evaded three Reds before falling to O'Callaghan. He struck it past Clemence to send the away side in to dream land.

Rovers continued to look a threat to the Reds in the game but Phil Thompson did hit the bar for the Reds before half time.

The second half saw more fight from the Reds and Callaghan and Keegan in particular.

The Reds finally equalised on fifty seven minutes through Kevin Keegan. For the second time it was a Callaghan cross which was met by Keegan and a goal resulted again.

Although the Reds dominated the rest of the game they couldn't find a way through. The closest they came to a winner when a Peter Cormack shot was cleared off the line. However at the other end Alec Lindsay had to do likewise from a Wignall header.

Rovers came within inches of providing the final sting in the tail when Kitchen saw his header come back off the crossbar.

A replay it was to be though which the Reds ended up winning.
