GREAT GAME BUT NO GOALS
Those leaving White Hart Lane today will still be wondering how this breathtaking
Premiership clash between Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur finished 0-0.
When you see the highlights of the game you'll see exactly what I mean, but Rafa
Benitez and Liverpool players will return to Anfield content that this was another
excellent away performance.
That they failed to win the game will serve as a frustration to the Reds, but they
played well against a Spurs side that wont lose many games at home this season.
The first half of this game was packed with excitement, but it had nothing on a
second half that saw two disallowed goals and countless near misses.
The best chances of the first half fell to Defoe and Cisse and Grzegorz Rasiak
should have done better with a header that he could only loop onto the bar.
Liverpool though will have gone in at half time satisfied that they were well in
the game.
The second half started at cut-throat speed and only the superb intervention of
Jamie Carragher prevented Jenas from bursting right through. And not to be out done,
Liverpool went straight down the other end and created an excellent chance.
Steve Finnan's sharp pass undid the Tottenham defence and sent Cisse clear on the
right and as his pull back headed for Garcia a goal looked inevitable, but Garcia was
denied by a brilliant goal line clearance.
That chance signalled a period of Liverpool dominance when both Cisse and Riise
would test England goalkeeper Robinson.
Robinson was in fine form, but there was nothing he could do when John Arne Riise
unleashed a fierce left foot volley soon after. Riise's technique was flawless, but it was
the crossbar he nearly broke and not the back of the net with Robinson beaten.
As in keeping with the pattern of the game, Tottenham attacked and Rasiak scored
what he thought was a debut goal only to see it ruled out because the cross had gone out
on it's way to him.
Liverpool felt Tottenham's pain just minutes later when this time Crouch saw his
headed goal ruled out by referee Webb.
There were nervous moments when Defoe appeared to be clear with just a minute to
go, but he was stopped by an offside flag.
Make no mistake this was a good point and the Reds can be happy as well as maybe a
little disappointed they haven't won.

Tottenham manager Martin Jol:
"It is always difficult and I think the three players making their debuts came
through well.
"Liverpool is a difficult team to beat. They don't give away a lot but we
still had three chances.
"I thought we did a terrific job. We showed we wanted to win. There are a lot
of positives."
Liverpool boss Rafeal Benitez:
"It was an exciting game. It was two teams trying to win.
"For me the most important thing is that we have a clean sheet and we have to
continue to work hard in attack.
"The problem is if you do not create opportunities but we have done. The
question now is just to have a bit of luck."
