REDS COMPLETE A DERBY DOUBLE
Second half goals from Ryan Flynn and Jimmy Ryan earned Liverpool under-18s a
deserved 2-0 derby win over Everton.
Flynn opened the scoring in the 70th minute with a close-range finish and Ryan doubled the
advantage five minutes later with a terrific 30-yard strike.
Apart from a spell just after half-time, the Reds were easily the better side at windswept
Everton Academy in Netherton as they bounced back from a 1-0 loss to Derby County in their
last Academy outing.
Ryan, Craig Lindfield and Charlie Barnett all went close in the first half but the hosts
came out stronger after the break.
Goalkeeper Paul Lancaster was forced to make a vital diving save, while skipper Stephen
Darby had to clear off the line as Liverpool weathered the Everton storm.
Flynn then broke the deadlock and when Ryan added a second shortly after the result was
never in doubt.
Team: Lancaster, Holmes, Burns, Darby, Threlfall, Smith, Ryan, Barnett (Platt), Lindfield
(Wignall), Flynn, Barratt (Pringle). Subs not used – Roberts, Spearing. |
