CLINCH DALLAS CUP GLORY
Liverpool Reserves have won the 2008 Dallas Cup after a 3-0 victory over Mexican
side Tigres.
A brace from Krisztian Nemeth and a goal from Martin Kelly ensured the U19 Super
Group trophy is on its way back to Anfield.
The presentation was made by Liverpool co-owner Tom Hicks, who said: "I know
it's been a great experience for the boys. They wanted to win, and they did."
The Reds went into Sunday night's clash with the upper hand having thrashed Tigres
5-1 earlier in the competition.
Their superiority was reiterated after just 10 minutes of the final when Ray
Putterill found Nemeth before the Hungarian ace slotted past goalkeeper Roman Lozano.
Putterill was again the provider for the second, winning the corner from which
Kelly converted.
Nemeth then added gloss to the win with his second on 90 minutes.
Manager Gary Ablett said: "Tigres played well both times against us. Obviously
we were too strong on both occasions."
