PROFILE
Cyril Sidlow was first-choice goalkeeper until the 1950-51 season. Russell Crossley
initially replaced Sidlow but Ashcroft played the last part of the season in goal.
Ashcroft was first-choice more or less the following season, but had to share first-team
duties with Crossley in the 1952-53 season. Dave Underwood came unto the scene in late
1953 and Doug Rudham in 1954. Aschcroft still managed to play 15 games in his final season
