  PROFILE

Born in Preston, Kevin Baron played as an amateur for North End before joining Liverpool. A former Bevin Boy, he was a clever player with great skill and imagination. Standing only 5ft 6ins, and weighing lOst 71bs, he was small enough to wriggle his way through opposing defences, causing havoc. Although he played in three FA Cup games in 1945-6, the first season after the war that the competition was resumed, Baron had to wait nearly four years before establishing himself in the League side. In 1948-9, he helped Liverpool Reserves finish Central League runners-up when his contribution was nine goals in 30 appearances. Baron was a member of the Reds' 1950 FA Cup Final team, but his best season was in 1951-2 when he made 40 appearances. The following season he scored ten goals, but left Liverpool in May 1954, after nearly a decade at Anfield. He joined Southend and later played for Northampton, Wisbech and Aldershot among others. He died in 1971.
