  PROFILE

Full-back Robert Crawford was a member of one of the best defensive line-ups in Liverpool's history when he teamed up with goalkeeper Sam Hardy and right-back Eph Longworth. Crawford signed for the Reds in 1909, making his League debut in February that year, at right-back in the 4-1 win over Leicester. He quickly established himself at Alfred West's expense and showed keen positional sense and determination in the tackle, playing 20 times as Liverpool finished League Championship runners-up in 1909-10. His finest season, however, was 1910-11 when he missed only seven League matches and formed such a fine back three with Hardy and Longworth. Injuries kept Crawford out of the side the following season and although he made 22 appearances in 1912-13, the injury recurred and in his final two seasons with the Reds he managed only 13 games, missing Liverpool's appearance in the 1914 FA Cup Final. Nevertheless, he passed the century mark and when he left Liverpool in 1915, Crawford could look back on a successful :areer at Anfield.
