  STAFF PROFILE

  A good friend of Gerard Houllier's, Christian Damiano arrived at Anfield in July 2003 as first team coach replacing the departed Jacques Crevoisier.

  Damiano is one of the most respected coaches in the game and was assistant manager to Jean Tigana at Fulham for three years, before leaving the club towards the end of the 2002-03 season.

  Damiano was assistant to Houllier as they led France under-18s to victory in the 1996 European Championships. The pair also worked closely at the French FA for 10 years.

  Damiano said: "It was a privilege and a pleasure to work with Gerard and he made a massive contribution to French football at all levels. He was always very hard working and we had an excellent professional relationship.

  "Of course, when you work so closely with someone like that you become good friends and Gerard was a fantastic example for me. I learnt a lot from him and he's a brilliant and very honest man."

  Before joining Fulham Damiano coached at Nice and such is his coaching credentials he helped bring on the likes of Thierry Henry and William Gallas.
