PROFILE
Jordan Henderson arrived at Anfield in June 2011 with a reputation as one of the
country's most promising young players.
The midfielder is part of a new generation of English footballers being blooded
into the national team.
Fabio Capello handed him a Three Lions debut at the tender age of 20 against France
on a day when Andy Carroll also earned his first cap.
This came after impressive performances for England U19s and U21s. He will
represent the latter in the 2011 European Championships.
Henderson came through the ranks at Sunderland, a club he joined aged seven.
Before making his first-team debut against Chelsea in November 2008 he helped the
Black Cats to successive U18 league titles.
The second half of his breakthrough season was spent on loan at Championship side
Coventry and it wasn't until 2009-10 that fans at the Stadium of Light really saw what he
was capable of.
Henderson totalled 38 appearances during the campaign and was crowned Sunderland's
Young Player of the Year - a title he would retain in 2010-11.
He left Sunderland with a tally of five goals from 79 appearances.
