  PROFILE

Centre-half Joe (or 'Jack' as he was more commonly known) Heydon was born in Birkenhead and signed for Liverpool in January 1949 when he was 20 years old. He had to wait until October 1950 before making his first-team debut and played a total of 13 times in the League during that 1950-51 season. After one early appearance the following year, he had an extended run from November onwards, missing only one of the 26 First Division fixtures between then and the end of the season. Joe was a regular for the first half of the 1952-53 season but then lost his place in the side. He was eventually transferred to Millwall in May 1953 and had a couple of years in London before returning to Merseyside to finish his playing career with Tranmere Rovers.
