  PROFILE

Norwegian international Oyvind Leonhardsen made his name at Wimbledon when he matured into an attacking midfielder with an eye for goal.

This prompted Roy Evans into splashing out J4.5 million for his services in the summer of 1997. Unfortunately he started the 1997-98 season injured and missed the opening 11 games before making his debut in a Coca Cola Cup tie against West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns.

His first goal for Liverpool came on his home debut against Derby County in a 4-0 win. However, with Steve McManaman playing on the right side Evans played 'Leo' out of position on the left of midfield, a role he never looked comfortable in.

In his second season at Anfield, Gerard Houllier had arrived at the club and Leonhardsen's chances were limited. He suffered injury problems too but played in the final six games of that season.

Houllier wanted to keep the Norwegian at Anfield but couldn't guarantee him a regular first team place, so Leonhardsen moved back to London and a J3.5 million move to Tottenham Hotspur.

Transferred from Molde to Rosenborg on 08.11.1994 for Ј660, 000
