  PROFILE

A two-footed elegant player who played either at right or left-back. London-born Frank had played over 200 times for Charlton Athletic when he signed for Liverpool. It was an attempt to bolster an increasingly fragile defence as the club nose-dived towards relegation to the Second Division. Frank’s arrival came too late to stop that slide but at least he had the satisfaction of helping his colleagues to keep a clean sheet on his debut against West Bromwich Albion at Anfield on Boxing Day, the goalless draw halting a run of three successive defeats in which fifteen goals had been conceded! Frank made the line-up at full-back for the first 18 matches of the following season but then lost his place as Liverpool attempted … unsuccessfully as it turned out to make an immediate return to the top division. His last league appearance for the club came at Middlesbrough towards the end of April 1955 and two months later he returned south to continue his playing career with Watford.
