  PROFILE

Kevin MacDonald's finest moment as a Liverpool player was when he was part of the side that won the League and FA Cup double in the 1985-86 season.

Signed by Joe Fagan from Leicester City for 400,000 pounds in 1984, MacDonald, who started his career with Highland League side Inverness Caledonian, had earned a reputation at Filbert Street as a tigerish midfielder with considerable skill and was the Foxes captain.

A hard working player, MacDonald played on the left of midfield as he helped Kenny Dalglish's side clinch the double, but the following season there was heartbreak as MacDonald broke his leg at the Dell against Southampton. The injury required two operations and kept him out of action for over a year, effectively ending his Liverpool career.

He made his comeback from injury towards the end of the successful 1987-88 season and was included on the substitutes bench for a number of games but failed to get on.

After a handful of games at the start of the 1988-89 season MacDonald left Liverpool for Coventry City and is now part of the coaching staff at Aston Villa.
