  PROFILE

David Mannix 2004-5  Winsford lad David is an exceptional talent, and played under 18 football for the reds in the 2000/01 FA Youth Cup, despite having only just turned 15 years old.

Midfielder David Mannix is out of action for four months after he broke his ankle during the reserves match at Newcastle on January 10th 2006.

Mannix only returned from an injury nightmare for the 2004/05 season and made 22 appearances for the reserves after he was out for almost three years with a serious knee injury.

Mannix was rewarded for his comeback when he signed a new contract in Christmas 2004 which will keep him at Anfield until the summer of 2007.

Mannix possesses a great range of passing, is two footed and a great competitor and is a regular member of Hughie McAuley's reserve squad.

He first came to fruition at the age of 13 when he was playing for the Under-17 team and stood out as a real class act. Without the injuries he could have easily been a regular member of the first team squad before now.

He has had five operations on his right knee and a visit to America has given him a new lease of life for his playing career.

Under-18 Academy manager John Owens said: "At Under-15/Under-16 level David was such a shining light in central midfield. He is a very strong but gifted midfield player.

"But for his injuries he would be playing regularly for the reserves and making tremendous progress towards being the next Academy player through to the first team squad. We hope with David Mannix the problems he has had with injuries is just a large hiccup if you like."
