PROFILE
Tom was an inside-forward who had played for several Scottish clubs before signing
for Liverpool in February 1912, making his debut for the Reds against Sheffield Wednesday
at Anfield a few days after his arrival on Merseyside. He established himself in the side
over the next two seasons and helped the club reach their first FA cup final in 1914, only
to suffer defeat to Burnley at the old Crystal Palace ground.
His playing career was interrupted by the First World War but when competitive
league football resumed in 1919 Tom was still a Liverpool player and managed 13 goals in
25 starts in what would prove to be his last full season at Anfield. He moved to
Manchester United in 1920, His brother John was also a Liverpool player in the 1919-20
season, but the two Millers only played in the same team together on three occasions.
