  PROFILE

Tom was at Anfield for 8 years between the two World Wars. He had been playing in the Scottish league when he was signed by Liverpool mid-way through the 1927-28 season and made 15 consecutive First Division appearances before the end of that year. He was one of only two ever-presents the following season, the other being full-back James Jackson, and would average 36 league appearances for the next 5 years before he moved on to Sunderland after losing his place in the team to Robert Savage in 1934-35.

Tom never won any honours during his spell on Merseyside but had been capped by Scotland and won a Scottish cup winners' medal before he travelled south to join Liverpool and was a member of the Sunderland team that won the League championship in 1936.
