  PROFILE

Jon Newby started this season on a three month loan spell with First Division side Sheffield United and was mainly used as a substitute at Bramhall Lane, although he did gain useful first team experience.

Jon continued his progress last season when he made his long awaited debut in the Worthington Cup game against Hull City at Anfield. He made his league debut in the goalless draw with Middlesbrough at Anfield in January, and in the absence of the injured Robbie Fowler and Michael Owen, became a regular in the first team squad but such is the array of talent at Anfield, he hasn?t been able to make a breakthrough this season.

The Reserves' leading scorer in their Championship winning side, he also spent a spell on loan with Crewe Alexandra to gain first team experience. The striker had progressed through the ranks after joining Liverpool as a nine-year-old in 1988 and featured alongside Michael Owen during the club?s 1996 FA Youth Cup triumph.

Jon Newby transferred to Bury on March 22nd 2001 after a spending a short loan spell at the same club.
