  PROFILE

Steve Ogrizovic was an outstanding goalkeeper in his own right and would have walked into most teams as the Number One. However, when you see that his competition for the Number One spot was a certain Ray Clemence it is not difficult to work out why his chances at Anfield were limited.

Steve did play against Derby and Leeds in March 1978 as cover for the injured Clemence but he was a regular in the reserve team.

A popular goalkeeper, Ogrizovic found fame at Coventry City and always received a rapturous reception from the Kop when he returned to Anfield. He won an FA Cup winners medal with Coventry in 1987 when the Sky Blues beat Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley. He retired from the game at the age of 40 in 2000.

Ogrizovic became a legend at Coventry, and played his 600th game for Coventry and his 719th in total against Liverpool on the 1st of April 2000. He played 5 of those matches in Liverpool’s goal.
