PROFILE
Whitham made a name for himself at Wednesday where he averaged a goal every other
game. He was brought to Liverpool after Roger Hunt's departure and responded well to the
challenge. Sadly his injury problems which had halted his progress in Sheffield continued
at Liverpool and whenever he had a run in the side he picked up an injury. John Toshack's
arrival meant that Jack's first-team opportunities became even more limited. However, he
did enjoy some success towards the end of 1971, scoring two late goals in a win at
Coventry and then managing a hat-trick against Derby County at Anfield three weeks later.
