     Liverpool put in a superbly professional performance on an icebound pitch in some 15 degrees of frost, keeping their heads and their feet to outwit and outplay the Poles. The Reds controlled the midfield, with Callaghan at his most industrious and skilful best, and the Wroclaw defence could never come to terms with the aerial threat posed by Toshack. The visitors might have been happy to come away with a goalless draw, but they achieved the breakthrough their display deserved through a piece of good fortune. Kennedy tackled defender Faber, and as the ball rebounded goalwards, 'keeper Kalinowski slipped and failed to prevent it from crossing the line. Smith set up Toshack to slot home the second, before Wroclaw gave themselves a glimmer of hope for the return, Pawlowski hooking the ball past Clemence following a free-kick.


  Шесть матчей турнира прошли в напряженной и равной борьбе. Чаще всего они заканчивались победой хозяев поля с перевесом лишь в один гол, а одну такую победу одержали гости. Это были футболисты «Ливерпуля», которые взяли верх во Вроцлаве над местным клубом «Шлёнск».

  Почти все игроки «Ливерпуля» выступают в сборных Англии, Уэльса, Ирландии. Гости открыли счет в начале второго тайма, успеха добился Кеннеди. На 74-й минуте польские защитники остановились, полагая, что было положение «вне игры», а валлиец Тошак забил второй гол. И лишь за десять минут до конца встречи хозяева поля один мяч отыграли.
