The match belonged to 21-year-old
Jimmy Case, who plundered his first senior hat-trick as the Reds eased into the
quarter-finals. The Poles, one down from the first leg, never looked capable of reviving
their cause and Clemence was a virtual spectator throughout the proceedings. Toshack, with
whom Wroclaw could never cope, created the first goal, touching it to Case, who
wrong-footed a defender before shooting firmly just inside a post from 15 yards.
Thereafter the young man was rampant, hitting a post with a tremendous drive before
scoring again after Keegan had split the defence with a teasing run. This time the 'keeper
reached the ball but the power of the shot defeated him. With the sparse crowd baying for
a third, Case obliged early in the second half, knocking home a rebound after Hall's
effort had been saved. |
