A last-gasp goal denied Liverpool
under-18s the chance to go top of the table as Manchester City came from behind to snatch
all three points at the Academy on Wednesday.
The young Reds dominated proceedings and took the lead on the stroke of half-time
through Paul Barrett, who finished coolly after latching onto an impressive through ball
from Charlie Barnett.
But playing against a strong wind in the second half John Owens' side failed to
convert their possession into further goals.
An unfortunate mistake by goalkeeper Dave Roberts then gifted City their equaliser
before the visitors stunned Liverpool with their undeserved late winner.
Team: Roberts; Holmes, Woods, Threlfall, Darby; Frayne
(Ryan), Barnett, Flynn (Smith), Barratt; Lindfield, Wignall (Nardiello).
