    PROFILE

Tommy Tynan (born 17 November 1955 in Liverpool) is a former football player for Plymouth Argyle. He also played for Torquay United along with Newport County and was one of the team who gained promotion, won the Welsh Cup and got to the quarter finals of the European Cup Winners Cup.

Tommy also played for Sheffield Wednesday, after being transferred from Liverpool.

Tommy was signed as an apprentice for Liverpool by the legendary Bill Shankly after winning a talent contest run by the Liverpool Echo newspaper. He formed a dynamite striking partnership at Newport with John Aldridge.

He became a cult figure during his time at Plymouth during the 1980s and is frequently named by Argyle fans as one of the club's all time greatest players. He was a member of the side which reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup in 1984, scoring the goal which beat then top flight West Bromwich Albion in the sixth round of the competition. Argyle went on to beat Derby County in the quarter finals before losing to Watford in the penultimate stage of the competition. In 1985, Tynan was joint top scorer in all 4 divisions of the Football League with 31 goals, level with Tranmere's John Clayton.

Tynan spent a season as manager of the now defunct Goole Town in the Northern Premier League back in the early 1990s. He is now a taxi driver in Plymouth, and writes a regular column for the local newspaper Plymouth Evening Herald.
